Under the patronage of the Blessed Mother, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas are united by their faith in Jesus Christ, in their devotion to the church and the Holy See. Formed in 1903, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the oldest and largest Organizations of Catholic Women in the Americas. We are commonly known as CDA.
They donate to charities, administer scholarship programs, and strive “to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow, or sickness.
The CDA motto is “Unity and Charity.”
The CDA was formed over one hundred years ago and today numbers 63,000 in dues-paying members in 1,150 courts (local chapters) in forty-five states across the country, and in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands.
Deeply spiritual, together they share faith, love of God and a distinctly feminine spirituality alluded to by Pope John Paul II when speaking on the necessity of “feminine genius” in today’s world. The program includes concerns of today’s church and society as well as issues that affect the well-being of women and children with a respect for life from conception to natural death.
The Legislature Program encourages interested members to learn about laws that may influence their faith and to contact their state representatives to make their personal positions known through Operation Morning Star (The Catholic Daughters of the Americas does not endorse political candidates).
CDA has a place for young and old alike. It provides an avenue to value each member throughout her life as we love, serve, and protect the dignity of all life.
The CDA National Website describes CDA as follows:
Our Mission
Catholic Daughters of the Americas stives to embrace the principle of faith working through love in the promotion of justice, quality, and the advancement of human rights, and human dignity for all.
Our Motto
Unity and Charity.
Our Two-fold Purpose: Spirituality and Service
The integration of spirituality and service is the foundation of the Catholic Daughters.
CDA helps women develop their spirituality and provides avenue of service to live out that spirituality. The CDA gives members a unique opportunity to share their faith with other Catholic women.
Helping other through charitable acts in the spirit of Jesus Christ is the heart of our organization.
